ARTIST STATEMENT
After 30years of full-time pottery making I had several years of hiatus. Having that break away from the “production Line” of domestic pottery was good. Now I have the freedom to explore and experiment with a variety of materials and firings.
Porcelain fired in a kiln to 1300 degrees C becomes a hard, white material. Finer and denser than stoneware with a finish that is beautiful and smooth to touch. It lends itself to finesse and translucency but can also extend to roughness and texture.
Sometimes I create simple forms by fully utilizing the discipline of form making in which I was trained. These forms become the blank canvas to display the delicate and intricate leaf forms of Australian Eucalypts.
I also like to push the material further, building slab structures, creating textures and working with ideas and inspiration drawn from nature and this beautiful Taungurung Country that I live on.
