ANNA STEYN

As a creative art therapist, my own artistic practice emerges from the profound intersection of healing and creation. My work celebrates the transformative power of bringing something into existence from nothing: a process that mirrors the therapeutic journey itself.

I am drawn to the honest conversation between my hands and materials. Fibre arts ground my practice in tradition while allowing infinite possibility. Wire becomes a collaborator, bending and shaping to hold both structure and vulnerability. Each material carries its own voice, its own texture and potential, and I find joy in discovering what emerges through touch and intuition.

Colour is the heartbeat of my work when it makes my world dance. Whether bold or subtle, colour carries emotion, memory, and hope in ways that words cannot reach. I believe deeply in art's capacity to heal, having witnessed its power to unlock expression, foster connection, and restore wholeness throughout my life.

My creative process honours spontaneity. Some of my most meaningful pieces arise from whims, from moments when instinct guides my hands toward unexpected combination of materials and hues. This approach reflects my understanding that healing, like art-making, cannot always be planned as the most profound discoveries happen when we trust the process.

Poetry weaves through my visual work, adding layers of meaning and rhythm. The marriage of word and form, texture and verse, creates spaces where multiple forms of expression can coexist and strengthen each other.

Through my art, I explore the beauty of imperfection, the strength found in vulnerability, and the endless possibility that exists when we dare to create. Each created piece is an invitation to touch, to experience and remember that we all have the capacity to transform the raw materials of our experience into something beautiful and meaningful.
