JOAN SEGRAVE
Painting has been Joan Segrave’s retirement passion since 2016, following a career as a psychologist with a deep interest in non-verbal approaches to well-being. Her painting practice is rooted in mindfulness and inspired by walking — extended, contemplative journeys through the Australian outback and along beloved local trails such as the Larapinta Trail, Bay of Fires, Uluṟu, Blackhall, and Warburton Trail.
Joan explores rhythm, colour, and contrast in her acrylic paintings, using both brush and palette knife to exaggerate and highlight the often subtle beauty of the Australian landscape. Her work reflects a felt experience — one of presence, curiosity, and deep connection to place.
Having developed her artistic skills through workshops and a tutored art group, Joan embraces her journey as an emerging artist. Her impressionist-style works invite viewers to slow down and tune in to the layered emotions and energies that live within nature.
