MARY
ANDERSON
I am a diverse artist who not only enjoys using all popular mediums: watercolour,
acrylic and oils, but also other surface design techniques such as gelli printing
and creating surface texture, which allows me to explore and enhance lots of
mediums appropriate for capturing my favourite subject moods.
As an Artist member of Yarra Valley Arts Council Inc. and previous member of The
Australian Guild of Realist Artists, I have been creating efficiently in my purpose
built Healesville studio for the past four years.
In that time I have exhibited in various solo and joint exhibitions, both local and national and continued to workshop art techniques while travelling through New
Zealand, Scotland, Ireland and Canada. One of my principal influences has come
from studying the 19th C Impressionists Movement where ordinary subject
matter was depicted using unusual visualangles, conceptually capturing the
essence rather than the details of chosen subjects
Typically, artists fluent in this fascinatingmovement, painted nature in a direct
and spontaneous colourful style. I feel this resonates with my artistic
direction and leads me to highlightimportant aspects being subject essence
rather than detail, controlledintermingling of new colour combinations, and drawing out the
evocative souls of my subject matter.
The joy I experience while painting is my way of storytelling, drawing the viewer
into a thought provoking relationship with the details in my work.
